Hide Hire
Located three miles from Fakenham my woodland hide offers a year round opportunity to capture varied images of both woodland birds and on occasions interesting mammals. The primary pool hide has attracted the following species:
Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Red Kite, Goshawk, Pheasant, Jay, Fieldfare, Mistle Thrush, Blackbird, Redwing, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Marsh Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Siskin, Redpoll, Mealy Redpoll, Bullfinch, Brambling, Wren, Grey Wagtail, Crossbill, Stock Dove, Yellowhammer, Spotted and Pied Flycatcher, Goldcrest, Lesser Whitethroat, Common Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Dunnock, Robin, Wood Pigeon, Waxwing. Mammals have included Polecat, Stoat, Brown Hare, Muntjac and Roe Deer, Common Shrew, Bank Vole and Wood Mouse. Species and numbers are dependent on the season.
The hide is fitted with Stopsol one way glass which has no visible effect on image quality but which has the bonus of making you completely invisible and so lens movement is not an issue for more nervous visitors.
The hide is available year round. From November through to early March expect a good array of woodland birds primarily Jay, Great spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, various tits, Siskin, Goldfinch and Redpoll. Both Sparrowhawk and Buzzard are regular but not guaranteed.
From March though to mid September during any hot dry periods the pool can offer a wide range of species. In addition to those already mentioned, there are usually Blackcap and Chiffichaff plus late summer frequently sees both Lesser Whitethroat and Whitethroat, Spotted Flycatcher and Green Woodpecker visiting. Sparrowhawks frequently come to bathe most reliably between late February and mid June when they are breeding. In years when Crossbills are present in the wood then they can be expected, but this is not an annual event and the last Crossbill year was 2025. In a typical summer in excess of 30 species are recorded visiting the pool.
Cost
Max of 2 people, £150 per day for hire of hide which seats two photographers comfortably. This cost is for the hide not per photographer, so if two of you book together then its £75 each.
